Salad Season

posted in: In The Garden, In The Garden | 0

Hot summer days followed by fresh salad from the garden, what a perfect combination. Although the tomatoes and cucumbers in the greenhouse have a way to go yet before we start harvesting we are already getting plenty of lettuce and radishes maturing outside.

Our first sowing of ‘Webbs Wonderful’ lettuce has just finished with the last of it harvested this week. We are now starting to pick a lovely oak leaf type lettuce by Johnsons called ‘Salad Bowl’. It’s the first time I’ve grown this and I’m very impressed. It is prolific, quick to mature and has a great flavour. The seeds came as a freebie with Gardeners World magazine a few weeks ago but I will certainly buy this again.

Lots of radishes ready at the moment too. My diet always improves at this time of year as I try to find ways to eat everything we’re growing.

Happy Days!
