With the daytime temperature barely rising above freezing today there isn’t a great deal we can get done outside. Whilst there is a growing list of jobs I want to get stuck into, the will to work all weekend in freezing temperatures after being out in them all week is I’m afraid sadly missing.
With livestock however comes a few responsibilities which can’t be escaped and our chicken pen has become due a good clean out, so we did venture out briefly to tackle that today. To much alarm from the hens we got all the old bedding and muck shovelled out and on to the compost heap and a nice deep bed of wood shavings put back in. A good deep bed of straw in the nest boxes to keep the birds warm and the eggs clean finished the job off nicely.
After filling up the bird feeders we’ve now retreated back into the house, lit the log burner and plan on enjoying a lazy Sunday afternoon.
