I grabbed a quick 10 minutes today to get the last of the seed potatoes in the ground. My first early’s and second early’s were planted about a month ago but I’ve been busy at work the last few weeks so my maincrop’s have been sat on my windowsill chitting away to their hearts content.
I’m about a week later than I would ideally have liked to get them planted but I doubt that will make much difference in the long run. These are likely to be in the ground until October before they are ready to harvest.
A quick job, I just took out a 150mm deep trench and laid out my seed potatoes at roughly 450mm intervals before back filling and lightly compacting. Just two rows used up all the seed potatoes I had. I didn’t manage to buy any late maincrop’s so that is it for my potato planting for this year.
My earlier planting’s are just starting to put on top growth so I’ll be starting earthing up in the next couple of weeks.
My plot has first early’s, second early’s and maincrop planted in rows from left to right so I can simply work my way across the plot in this direction harvesting them as I need them once they start to mature. Lovely!
