Just a quick photo update to show the progress of the onion sets I planted back on the 6th April. I planted two rows of red onion and two rows of white onion sets. Other than keeping them watered they’ve had no other attention until today. I’ve just hoed between the rows to remove weeds this afternoon.
They are doing well. The white onions have about 150mm of top growth and the red ones around 100mm. This is as expected and the reds will likely remain smaller throughout the growing season and indeed we expect them to be smaller at harvest.
None of our plots have had any kind of fertilizer or feed so far this season as we just don’t have access to it at the moment. I’ll happily accept slightly lower yields if necessary this year so long as I can keep growing.
