Last weeks heavy snow falls here in Yorkshire have created a casualty or two here in Smithy Brook and also for some clients of my landscaping company Aire & Calder Ltd.
In Smithy Brook our own Bruce the Spruce who overlooks our lovely new dining area suffered serious damage to a major limb when the weight from a build up of heavy snow caused a branch to split. As often happens with coniferous trees in these conditions the branch didn’t actually snap of but did split along it’s length severely weakening it.
Now that the snow has gone, temporarily it seems as more is forecast for this week, I took my chance to remove the damaged limb before further snow and wind could bring it crashing down on my new pergola and fencing.
I’ve had to carry out similar work for several clients over the last couple of weeks. As its not always immediately obvious that your trees have been damaged it is definitely worth a good visual check of all trees following heavy snow fall. It’s much better to be able to bring down damaged limbs in a controlled way than to leave them to the vagaries of the weather.
