I’m still managing to get a few jobs done each day on the small holding around my busy work schedule. Today I’ve planted out my courgettes.
I started them indoors about a month ago. A packet of twelve seeds set on the kitchen windowsill generated 10 healthy plants. Just one or two plants is normally enough to feed a family as courgettes are very prolific. I resisted the temptation to plant out all of them and opted for just four plants (although I did consider planting the rest just to harvest the flowers – very nice deep fried in a tempura batter). I popped them in the end of the potato bed as I’m not planting late maincrop tatties this year. Courgettes need quite a bit of space so this gap where I would have had another two rows of potatoes is ideal.

The ground was still moist from last night watering and heavy rain is forecast for tonight so hopefully they’ll be off to a flying start.
I’ve given away the spare plants so hopefully nothing going to waste.
Courgette jam anyone?
